Times of Rejoicing

On Monday, October 6, Mercedes Jade Serger was born to Peter and Kristin Serger (and big brother Roain).

Peter and Kristin have been working with Continental Mission for over a year.

Early September, they opened our new Youth Drop In Centre called THE HIDEOUT.

Praying for Friends in Mourning

This has been a week of mourning for friends here in Thompson:

- A 19 year old man was murdered last weekend. Police are still investigating.

His family is still mourning the loss of this young man's father who passed away last winter.

His Granny is a believer that I have been able to travel with and minister with in Thompson and Churchill.

- A man passed away in his sleep last weekend.
Most of us at the Mission met him through the Drop In Centre, when he was unable to work due to breaking his arm.

Praise for God's Protection

I keep thanking the Lord for His protection.

This summer, I drove my car down to Steinbach. I already knew that my car had the "shakes".  Starting and stopping meant some pretty good vibrations.

I left my car at the shop my parents use, and returned to Thompson for the Bible Camp season.

The shop called to let me know what they had found.

THEY WERE AMAZED that I had made it there without having any trouble.

BOTH rear tires were ready to blow out. They BOTH had boils and S-curves!!!

And the tires were just the "amazing" part of the list.

The list went on to include new front rotors, etc, etc.

Lord,  thank you for your protection!

Now... I just need to find the money to pay off the $1000 bill!

Letter from a Drop In Centre Guest

A lady that comes to our Soup Kitchen/Drop In Centre wrote this letter recently!
(Note: her name has been changed!)

This is Jane speaking. I really need help!
I want to become a born Christian,
I miss being happy.
I loved when I was one of the sisters!
This drinking ain't doing me any good!
All I see in myself is sadness
and I don't like it.
I know that God's son died for me
and I am glad to be part of him,
yes I thank our Lord
for saving you and I.
Please can you pray for me.

Thank you very much

Jane

Holidays

In September, I was able to travel to Calgary with my parents.

While in Alberta, we got to be tourists and see things like Elbow Falls (south-west of Calgary)

as well as spend time with my sister, Pearl and her kids (even spent Sunday morning at their church as Pearl taught Sunday School)

Bemidji, Minnesota Trip

Mid-September Ron Perepeluk and I traveled to Bemidji, Minnesota.

During this weekend, Ron and I spent time with Barb Maxwell (Continental Mission USA Missionary), as well as were involved in two different mission evenings and our regular Continental Mission Board Meeting.

We were also glad to see our Mission founder, John Goodrich. John is 94 years old. (NOTE: in the group picture, he is sitting in the front of the group on the left.)

THE HIDEOUT

September 4th 2008 "The Hideout" opened for its first night of ministry!

The Hideout is a youth drop in center for teens ages 13-18 years old.

Please pray:

- as the youth of Thompson hear about The Hideout and start coming
- for the relationships that will be developed between the staff and the teens

Midway Bible Camp 2008

CAMPERS

This summer we were privileged to have 203 campers join us for a week of camp.

They came from Thompson, Nelson House, Split Lake, York Landing, Norway House, Pikwitonei, Oxford House and God's Lake Narrows.

As well, we also had one former Thompson campers who now lives in Northern Minnesota!

STAFF

Our staff (approximately 40) came to us from Thompson, Split Lake, Steinbach and area, Altona and area, as well as one guy who came from Alberta for one week.
WORK CREW

A work crew joined us for a week this June. They did a lot of the work to prepare the campsite for the upcoming season - cleaning the cabins and dining hall, repairing and painting buildings as well as some repairs at our office in Thompson.

Mission X 2008

Each year, Steinbach Bible College sends their 2nd year students to spend a week in Northern Manitoba.

During this week, they go through:

- an orientation day in Thompson
- about 4 days in one of our Northern communities
- a debriefing back in Thompson

Getting to these communities can present some challenges.

This year, students traveled by:

- airplane to 2 of the communities
- winter road to another 2 communities (Winter roads are a combination of gravel roads, bush roads, as well as driving on frozen lakes)
- highways to 3 of the communities
